Job Search Guide Part Two – The Methods You Can Rely On

The Search For The Most Effective Job Search Method

Wondering why you just can’t find the job you’re looking for? Curious as why your chosen field seems to have few job openings? It’s a common problem, don’t worry. You’re definitely not alone!

At the end of the day, even with a good, polished resume and cover letter, searching a place to find a good job is quite challenging. Although the job hunting world has paved the way towards multiple opportunities, an effective job search tool is still a big question mark.

Nonetheless, here are some of the most common ways to get a job. Trying all of them will give you tons of experience and might help you meet a number of people. Bear in mind that performing the process of elimination (trying all of them until you find the best technique) is the best approach. This way, you’ll see what methods will help you find a good career in your chosen field faster.

Without further ado, here are the most common job searching methods that Filipinos use in order to get a job.

Job Hunting Modern Style – What Applicants Usually Use To Find A Job

No matter what people say, job fairs are a good way to find a job. Not only will you find a myriad of job openings but you’ll also find the employers who are looking for them. Instead of giving you a vague job description, you can ask them yourself. Added bonuses such as contests or freebies are also found here. Take note, however, that job fairs are limited to a certain venue. It can only house a number of companies, hence, limiting your choices.

With the dawn of information technology, the internet has been a tool for achieving almost anything—even getting hired. One technique you can employ is to find employment sites. It is like a library of job openings. For the job hunter, this is truly a jackpot—you’ll have hundreds of openings in front of you. At the same time, these are categorized by fields or required experiences. You can also search for the companies you want to apply for. Majority of them have their own company websites, where in you can find their job openings.

Job Hunting Old School Style – Traditional But Effective Ways Of Finding A Job

Fresh graduates usually have a hard time going around. Because of this, it’s not unusual for them to ask for help. Networking through parents, relatives, family friends or acquaintances are great ways to get job opportunities at an early stage. However, this shouldn’t stop there. Building one’s network is a continuous process. One should establish more contacts later on.

Perhaps two of the oldest job seeking methods there are through classified ads and other types of print ads. Although in today’s day and age, a huge percentage of people have internet connections in their homes, not all have that luxury. Some people would still go to tangible sources like newspapers, posters or fliers. Unfortunately, work posted on these are limited. You’re likely to see them at fast food establishments, department stores and those firms which require manual labor.

Perhaps the most classic method of job hunting is to do a walk-in. Instead of passing your resume through a medium, you can do it yourself. Get a company address from a directory or from their official website and go there. There are tons of firms that accept walk-ins and hold interviews on the spot. Some appreciate the effort these job hunters do to get hired.

Job Search Guide Part One – How To Determine Which Job To Apply For

Job Search Guide – The Question Every Applicant Should Ask

Okay, you’ve written and polished your resume—that’s great! Now, you’re ready for the next step, which is to find a job. For many, this is an exciting part of job hunting. Here’s where you will look at various job openings, submit your CV and wait for a call. That’s pretty much the process. But before resorting to job search methods, you should first ask yourself one question:

“What job do I want to have?”

Whether you’re a fresh graduate or an experienced fellow, you should have an idea of what kind of job you want to have. Tons of people don’t really know what they want and end up applying for a bunch of jobs, which they never really have success with. Sure, it’s good to try new things but there comes a time when you have to contemplate on what you really want to do. This will make it easier to manage your career.

When you’ve already come up with an answer, you’ll be able to narrow down jobs that you can apply for.

Job Search Factors Every Applicant Should Remember While Looking For A Job

Yet, there are certain factors that you need to remember when you’re applying for work. Unless you’re willing to go to the ends of the earth just to get experience, just choose to be practical. As early as looking for companies to apply to, you should already have these things in mind and no, it’s not about the salary or the benefits. You’ll find out that this will come later on.

  1. Location – You’ve found the perfect job! Good for you, but did you ever stop to think about looking at its location? If it’s 10 hours away or even in another country, forget it (but if you’ve been planning to work out of town or abroad, then that’s another story). Chances are, transporation will be tough and you might waste your salary for that. Unless you’re willing to face the odds, then go ahead. But practically speaking, you should find something else.
  2. Job Description – Read through the job description and not just the position. “Sales Representative” or “Graphic Artist” may sound easy but you should take the time to look through the whole job post. When you’ve finally established the fact that you’re for this job then you should go to…
  3. Job Requirements – Never ever forget to read this. Some people fail to read “At least _ years of experience needed” or “Bring your portfolio”. Make sure that you’ve read everything. This way, you’ll know if you’re for the job or not. Also, going through this will tell you what you’ll need to prepare if ever you get scheduled for an interview. Usually, similar job openings have common requirements—keep that in mind.
  4. Company Background – Before you decide to pass your resume, do a research on the company. Most people get duped because the job opening sounds like everything they’re looking for. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. To be safe, read more about the company’s background.
